Guidance for Lay Executors
Thank you for acting as an executor. We know this responsibility can feel overwhelming, and we are grateful for everything you are doing to carry out your loved one’s wishes.
This information is for guidance only. It should not replace professional legal or financial advice – if you are uncertain about your duties, we recommend speaking to a solicitor or adviser.
If Right To Play UK is Named in the Will
Please let us know so we can support you through the process. Contact our Legacy Team at:

It is also helpful to provide the name and address of the deceased. This ensures our records are accurate and prevents further mail being sent to their address.
What We May Ask For
As a registered charity, we must follow UK legal and audit requirements. The documents we need depend on the type of gift:
Pecuniary or Specific Gift
– A fixed sum of money or a specific item.
– The process is usually straightforward: we simply need to know the amount or details of the gift, and to receive it when the estate is ready.
– For estates in Scotland, we may ask for a copy of the relevant Will clause.
Residuary Gift
– A share of the estate after debts, costs and other legacies.
– To ensure we comply with Charity Commission requirements, we may ask for:
• A copy of the Will (and any codicils)
• A schedule of assets and liabilities
• Valuations of major assets (if relevant)
• Estate accounts before final distribution
• Tax certificate R185 if Income Tax has been paid
We understand this may be your first time dealing with estate matters. Please contact us if you are unsure – we will do our best to help.
How Legacy Gifts Are Used
Gifts in Wills are vital to Right To Play UK. Through our global programmes, they help children in some of the world’s most vulnerable communities access quality education, protection and essential life skills. Every gift, large or small, leaves a lasting impact.
Making Payment
When you are ready to distribute the legacy, payment can be made by bank transfer, cheque or card. Please contact us first so we can provide the correct reference and details.
Thank you once again for carrying out this important responsibility. Your support helps children learn, grow and build brighter futures through the power of play.
