We invite our loyal supporters to a virtual visit to the field in Lebanon. So, save the plane ticket and join from your desk as Right To Play’s Field Facilitator Sarah El Jizi gives a live discussion on how sport and play are helping to build peaceful communities in Lebanon.

Over the past 30 years, Lebanon has been plagued by bouts of civil war and factional violence. As a result, Lebanon has experienced an influx of refugees, initially from the Palestinian Territories, then from Iraq, and most recently from Syria. Since March 2011, over 1.5 million Syrian refugees have registered at UNHCR records, more than half of them are children and women. Given the current socio-economic profile of the country and in addition to the turbulent and frustrated political situation, there is an increasing burden that exceeds the capacity of local authorities to handle the deteriorating humanitarian situation.

Right To Play’s Sports and Humanitarian Assistance (SAHA) project uses football and life skills training to improve social cohesion to support peaceful coexistence and youth development in vulnerable communities. Trained youth leaders engage groups of children, young people and parents to create opportunities for exchange and cooperation to promote social stability and improve access to safe and inclusive spaces. In 2018 the project engaged with 27 local partners, 90 youth coaches and 1,756 children.
