Sports Quiz 2022 raises over £300k

SQ 22

Right To Play UK’s sixth annual Sports Quiz took place at Intercontinental Park Lane in London on Thursday 3 November 2022, raising over £300,000 for our work to protect, educate and empower children in 15 countries through the power of play.

This year's special event was once again sponsored by our long-time partners PokerStars, a Flutter international brand, and saw teams representing many of the City’s top firms competing on the night for the Sports Quiz trophy.

Huge congratulations go to Lexington Partners – our 2022 Sports Quiz Winners! As ever, the competition in the room was fierce, with plenty of quizzing, bidding and winning – and a great reminder of the power of play.

So far, with the incredible support from our sponsors PokerStars, and supporters’ generous donations, we’ve raised over £300,000 for Right To Play’s life-changing work. A special thank you to everyone who bid on a prize in our auction, bought a prize draw ticket or supported the children in our programmes with a vital fundraising pledge.

This year’s Sports Quiz also had support on the night from our quizmaster and presenter John Inverdale and sporting heroes including cricketers Joe Clarke, Tom Curran, Ollie Pope, Dom Sibley, Gladstone Small, and Jack Winslade. Rugby player Nathan Hines, football coach and goalkeeper Chris Kirkland, snooker player Jason Ferguson, and Liverpool FC women’s goalkeeper Rylee Foster also joined guests, alongside golf legend Sam Torrance – who played against guests in a charity poker tournament at the end of the night.

“The funds raised at this year’s Sports Quiz will help us use the power of play-based learning to support children to stay in school and succeed, overcome prejudice, resist exploitation and heal from the trauma of war and displacement. We’re so grateful to everyone who supported this year’s event and thank them for their commitment to children’s wellbeing and education” said Gillian McMahon, Executive Director of Right To Play UK.

A huge thank you to the competing teams, our sponsor PokerStars, our volunteer Sports Quiz Committee and our Side by Side partners Liverpool FC Foundation for helping to bring the benefits of play-based learning and activities to millions of children – and protect, educate and empower vulnerable children using the power of sport and play.
